OpoponaxOpoponax

This is another of the region's famous resins. Opoponax is a viscous exudate of Commiphora erythraea glabrescens which is most commonly found in the Ogaden region of Ethiopia. The exudate solidifies to brown lumps of a warm balsamic and sweet, honey-like fragrance. Hence it is used in perfumery and flavouring.

Opoponax

As there is no organised tapping, most of the opoponax we collect is naturally exuded gum. Collection is during the hot windy summer months of July and August. We market 2 categories of opoponax, cleaned and processed in our first class facilities in Somaliland.
